A client from Cary, North Carolina, approached Adrenaline Autosound about building an amazing stereo system for his 2016 Toyota Corolla. The client had saved his Alpine amplifiers and subwoofers from his previous vehicle- he wanted to use them as a starting point in his Toyota Corolla stereo system.
Front Stage Speaker Selection
The first order of business was to choose the speakers for the front of the car. After listening to the all the speakers on our display board, he chose GB Series midrange woofers and tweeters from Audiofrog.
To mount the GB60 midrange woofers, we removed the factory door speakers and fabricated custom HDPE mounting adapters to secure the new drivers. Our typical installations involve nutserts, machine-thread mounting hardware and foam gaskets on all speakers.
The GB10 tweeter would not fit inside the factory tweeter grill. As the client thought the Audiofrog tweeter looked pretty cool, we agreed to modify the grill to show off the new speaker. We built up the sail panels to hold the GB10 with body filler. The mounting ring is included with the tweeters. We finished them off with a coat of textured black paint.
Amplifier and Subwoofer Solution
The client had three matching Alpine amps that we mounted on a panel. It attaches to the split-folding rear seat. We hid all of the mounting hardware behind the amplifiers to give the panel a clean look. We made sure that the seats would still fold down easily.
The client also brought along a pair of Alpine Type-R subwoofers and a vented enclosure from his previous vehicle. We were able to fit the subwoofer enclosure into the truck without any modification.
Audio Integration
We decided to work with the factory radio in the Corolla using a JL Audio Twk-88 DSP processor. We fed the factory source unit signal into the processor then applied crossovers, equalization and signal delay to produce a natural-sounding and realistic soundstage.
Running the required 2 AWG power wire through the car was challenge. We had to take apart the factory plastic wire loom, and then run all the power and speaker wire. To conceal everything, we installed new, larger loom over everything and taped it up in the same fashion as the original. If you didn’t know the car, you would never know we had worked on it.

The client returned to Adrenaline Audio to pick up his car and hear his system for the first time. He was stunned at the clarity and detail of the Audiofrog speakers and loved the overall balance and realism of the system.
