Ford Mustang GT Audio System for Repeat Greenville Client

Ford Mustang GT AudioA client of ours from Greenville recently returned to Adrenaline Autosound to upgrade his 2017 Ford Mustang GT audio system. This Mustang is the third vehicle we have upgraded for the client. Even though it’s a 1.5-hour drive to see us, he brings each new car he gets for a new sound system. Knowing how he enjoys his music, we were able to quickly and efficiently design a system that would meet his expectations.

Audiofrog GS Speaker Upgrade

Ford Mustang GT Audio
The OE Audiofrog tweeter is designed to drop into factory locations.

We started the project by removing the factory tweeters from the A-pillars and installing a set of Audiofrog GS10-OE tweeters in their place. The tweeters fit perfectly with no modifications. It is our standard practice to ensure everything we install is easily serviceable. As such, we added a set of Molex connectors to the speaker wires, so the pillars remain removable without affecting the speaker connection. We also added a set of large-value non-polarized capacitors to the speaker wires to protect the drivers in the event someone other than us adjusts the system.

We removed the factory woofer from the doors and installed a set of Audiofrog GS60 woofers. Our standard practice is to create a set of custom HDPE plastic mounting rings to ensure the speakers are mounted securely on the door. We ran new speaker wires to the doors, added sound damping material and installed a set of foam acoustic coupling baffles to optimize the performance of the speaker upgrade.

Ford Mustang GT Audio System Integration

As always, our wiring is neat and compliments the factory wiring.

The amplifier and processor were installed into the spare tire well.

We kept the factory source unit in the system and fed the output to a JL Audio TwK-88 processor in the trunk. The processor and JL Audio HD900/5 amplifier are mounted to the foam storage tray in the spare tire well. We flipped the tray around to give us ample space for the upgrade. The foam tray supports the trunk floor, so keeping it in place was important.

The angled amp rack is mounted to the vehicle using ¼-20 stainless hardware and nutserts. The angle of the amp rack makes system adjustments quick and easy.

As you can see, we take great pride in ensuring our wiring is neat and tidy. We route everything along the same paths as the factory harnessing and protect it with automotive-grade cloth tapes from Tesa.

JL Audio Subwoofer System

The trim pieces integrate the enclosure into the trunk.

We created a custom subwoofer enclosure for a single JL Audio 8W7 subwoofer at the back of the trunk. Once the vented enclosure was in place, we fabricated a cosmetic trim ring and wrapped it in gray carpet that matches the trunk.

System Configuration and Delivery

With everything installed, we then set up the processor to create a realistic soundstage in the vehicle. We configured the crossovers to ensure each speaker would be operating within an appropriate frequency range. Signal delay, level setting and equalization create excellent imaging for a realistic listening experience.

With the system configured, it was time to turn this Mustang GT back over to the client. He was thrilled with the way the system looks in the car and loves the way it sounds. Smooth frequency response and realistic placement make listening to his music much more enjoyable. If you are interested in upgrade the sound system in your pony car, drop by Adrenaline Autosound in Clayton, give us a call or send us an e-mail using our contact page.
