A repeat client from Greenville came to Adrenaline Autosound with his 2014 Ford Focus ST, looking to upgrade the audio system. Our team spent time on going over the vehicle with him and listening as he explained his goals for the upgrades. We explained that the factory stereo in the dash was fine and that, by adding a good processor such as the Mosconi 4to6DSP, we could skyrocket the sound quality of his audio system. As we talked through budget, he decided to add the subwoofer in a second round of upgrades.
Mosconi Processor Starts The System Off Right
We started by installing the 4to6DSP to the speaker outputs of the Ford stereo system. The Mosconi piece gives us 30 bands of equalization for every speaker, along with crossover settings and digital delay. In the hands of a skilled tuner, a DSP can become the building block of a car audio system that will make you want to listen for hours on end.
Our team of master-certified installers fabricated a custom mount to hold the optional RC Mini controller for the DSP in a perfect location in the center console. Adding the controller gives us the capability to tune different sound presets for the client, maximizing his listening enjoyment.
JL Speakers Provide Upgraded Sound
In the front doors, we installed a set of JL Audio C5-650 components, mounting the 6.5” woofer on a custom composite speaker adapter in the original factory location. We mounted the JL tweeters in the original tweeter locations in the door, again on custom mounts. We added acoustic coupling rings to the front of the woofers to improve mid-bass response and ran new speaker wires into the door as well.
We applied Focal BAM sound-damping material to the doors to lower road noise and eliminate any possibility of rattling or vibration from the high-performance speakers now installed.
JL Amplifier Offers Lots Of Clean Power
For power, we went to JL Audio, choosing their XD700/5v2 amplifier. For now, it will send 75 watts per channel to each of the C5 component speakers we installed in the doors. When the client comes back for the subwoofer, his system will be ready with 300 watts of power just waiting to be used. We hid the amp under the false floor and neatly loomed and securely mounted all wiring.
