I Have Premium Audio – Will An Aftermarket System Sound Better?

Aftermarket SystemThe staff at Adrenaline Autosound in Clayton gets asked about how the performance of a premium OEM sound system compares to an aftermarket system. Brands like Lexicon, Bose, Beats, Panasonic, Krell and B&O are commonplace on mid- and premium-level vehicles. Do they perform as well as a system we can install? Let’s take a close look at how we upgrade sound systems for better performance.

Premium Speaker Solutions

Aftermarket SystemWhen an automaker sets out to design a new audio system, they will partner with companies like Bose, Panasonic or Harman to design a solution that meets their performance goals within their budget limitations. In most cases, while the technology found in premium sound systems can be quite impressive, the execution suffers based on the speakers used in the system.

Small magnets, simplistic motor designs and flimsy cones produce lackluster results. Even when tuned by experts, these systems simply do not offer the clarity and detail that quality aftermarket speakers can deliver. We use speaker brands like Audiofrog to provide our clients with the highest quality, lowest distortion solutions available.

Audio System Power Amplifiers

Have you ever owned a vehicle with a factory sound system that is acceptable at low volume but completely falls apart when you crank it up? The problem here is power. Factory amplifiers are often limited to 30 or 40 watts per channel. The systems we design offer at least 75 watts per midrange or tweeter and often exceed 100 watts on mid-bass drivers and 500 watts on subwoofers. Having adequate power means that your music will sound great even when you turn the volume up all the way.

Premium Performance Subwoofers

Aftermarket SystemReproducing the bottom octaves of the audio spectrum accurately is crucial to recreating the perception of a live performance. Almost all factory sound systems fall short on bass reproduction. Even the systems that do include subwoofers typically provide anemic performance. We use premium quality subwoofers from companies like JL Audio to ensure your sound system upgrade will play into the infrasonic region with clarity and authority.

Factory Source Unit Integration

What if you own a BMW, Mercedes Benz or Lexus with a source unit that is integrated into the vehicle? Can you upgrade your sound system? Most certainly. We can work with almost any factory sound system to improve the overall volume and clarity of the system. We have the tools, processes and experience to integrate new equipment seamlessly and reliably.

Thoughtful Aftermarket System Design and Installation

Another important factor in our factory-installed sound system upgrades involves the way we mount new equipment in your vehicle. We use existing equipment mounting locations and repurpose nearby fasteners to secure your equipment reliably. We route all wiring along OEM wire pathways and secure them in place using automotive-grade cloth tape. We install everything so that it is easy to access for system configuration and tuning.
