Features of the JL Audio FiX Processors
The FiX-82 and FiX-86 both include eight speaker-level input connections that will accept to 30 V RMS of audio signal. The processors combine signals from the tweeter, midrange, mid-bass or subwoofer channels and remove any equalization or signal delay. The result is a full-bandwidth, time-coherent signal that we can use as a starting point to configure your system. Functionally, the FiX processors make interfacing with a factory sound system as easy as connecting RCA’s cables to an aftermarket unit.
What Happens if You Don’t Undo Factory Tuning
Combining audio signals without undoing processing can lead to unpredictable and undesirable results. If the music sent to the mid-bass drivers in your car doors is delayed relative to the signal sent to the midrange and tweeters on your dash, all sorts of distortion will be created if you sum these signals without proper compensation.
FiX Processor Output Options
The FiX-82 processor offers two output options. We connect to a pair of RCA jacks or an Optical Toslink connection. The Toslink connection is ideal if we are going to use a JL Audio TwK system tuning processor. The FiX-82 combines and processes the information from all four sets of inputs to a single pair of stereo outputs.
The FiX-86 integration processor doesn’t have a digital output but instead provides front, rear and subwoofer RCA outputs. This configuration allows us to maintain fader- and subwoofer-level control functionality in your aftermarket system.
