Why Do I Need a DSP?
An automobile is a challenging environment when it comes to recreating music. Less-than-optimum speaker locations and sound reflections from different materials can wreak havoc with what you hear.
That said, to maximize the features and performance of a DSP, we need to design your sound system around it. We mentioned a “fully active design” earlier, and want to clarify the importance of this. In an active system, we assign a dedicated amplifier channel to each speaker in the vehicle. This configuration gives us complete control over the signal going to each tweeter, midrange, mid-bass driver or subwoofer.
We start the tuning process by setting the crossovers on each channel to optimize the performance of the speaker. Next, we adjust the time delay of the signal going to each speaker so that all the information arrives at your ears simultaneously. Finally, we fine-tune the frequency response and output level of each speaker. Once we complete the tuning process, your music will have natural and lifelike tonal balance. Our tuning process ensures accurate staging and imaging that will make it sound as though you are sitting front row center at a live concert or behind the console in a recording studio.
The Features of JL Audio TwK Processors
The TwK-88 has eight analog RCA inputs, as well as Toslink and coaxial digital inputs. The TwK-D8 forgoes the analog and coaxial input, leaving the single Toslink connection. From there onward, both systems are identical. When paired with the optional DRC-200 remote control, users can select from up to six system presets and fine-tune the subwoofer level remotely. Both TwK units have eight outputs, each capable of 4V RMS of signal.
