The owner of this Maserati GranTurismo contacted the team at Adrenaline Autosound to inquire about options for a radar detector and laser defense system. With more than 450 hp on tap from the Ferrari-sourced V8, it takes only a blink of an eye for this luxurious cruiser to exceed the speed limit. The client wanted as much protection as possible to ensure he wouldn’t get a speeding ticket. After our consultation with the owner, we designed a premium protection system based on the much-lauded AL Priority system.
Maserati Radar Detector and Laser Defense
Our installation started with removing the front and rear bumper covers to provide unhindered access to the chassis. We mounted dedicated front and rear Net Radar DSP antennae directly to the vehicle to provide optimal X, K and Ka-band radar sensitivity. In case you are curious, radar signals will pass through the plastic bumper covers with almost no attenuation.
Next on the menu was the installation of the laser sensor modules. We mounted two sensors on the rear of the vehicle and another pair in the front grille. We added a third sensor to the front of the vehicle. This Tx sensor is mounted in the center of the grille and features three transmitters to help deal with hard-to-jam guns like the dreaded DragonEye.
As always, the wiring for the antennae and sensors is protected with automotive-grade cloth tape, and everything is routed carefully and secured so that it won’t interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle.
Custom Controller Installation
In order to make the controller for the system inconspicuous yet easily accessible, we created a small mounting pod that attaches to the OEM trim bezel just above the rearview mirror. We sculpted ABS plastic to form a housing, then opened up a mount for the control panel. We finished the pod in a satin black paint that matches the blacked-out area on the windshield to complete the integrated look.

With the radar detector installation complete and the system test done, we called the client to let him know he could pick up his Maserati. Upon his arrival at the shop, we gave him a tour of the installation and offered a thorough explanation of how to use the system.
