Sanford Client Gets Lexus IS250 Blind Spot System

Lexus IS250 Blind Spot SystemThis Sanford-based client contacted Adrenaline Audio in Clayton while researching a 2007 Lexus IS250 blind spot system solution. We invited the client to our store to discuss how we could integrate a system with his vehicle. The client was impressed with our conversation and gave us the go-ahead to book an installation appointment.

Installation Location Consultation

When activated, the sensor behind the grille is clearly visible.

Once we had the car in the shop, we discussed several options for placement of the warning indicators. We are not a big fan of drilling holes in the A-pillars to mount the sensors. This is not where a vehicle manufacturer would locate them, so it is not how we do it. We suggested that inside the tweeter pod in the corner of the door might more suitable.

The shaved down indicators were able to fit under the factory grille.

In its dormant state, the indicators are not visible.

With the door panels and tweeter pods removed, it was clear that our chosen location would work, but that it was going to require some modifications to the indicators. We took the indicators apart to shave down the size of the body. After making careful measurements, we drilled holes in the lower rear portion of the tweeter pods and mounted them on the front. We confirmed that the factory mesh grille still fit before mixing up epoxy to secure everything in place. Once we applied the adhesive, we set the pods aside and began work on the remainder of the installation.

Control Unit and Radar Sensors

Removal of the bumper cover was required for proper sensor mounting.

The Voxx ACABSD Blind Spot Detection System includes a pair of radar transceivers. These sensor units mount on the rear quarter panels, behind the plastic bumper cover. After test-fitting the sensors behind the cover, we secured them in place and began the process of running the wiring through the vehicle. Anytime we run wiring, we take care to ensure that it is safe and follows the path of factory wiring. We mounted the control module for this Lexus IS250 Blind Spot System in the dash. Then we plugged in the warning buzzer, sensors and indicators, and soldered the remaining electrical connections for maximum reliability.

Lexus IS250 Blind Spot System Testing

With the car back together, we took it outside to test the accuracy and range of the system. With system functionality confirmed, we went through our vehicle electronic system checklist to make sure everything else was flawless.

When the customer arrived to pick up the car, we showed him how the indicators would alert him to the presence of a vehicle in his blind spot and how the buzzer would warn him when he used his turn signals. The client was impressed with the system.
